Area 51 is a program on WBCQ The Planet, North America’s voice of free sheech on the airwaves. The concept for Area 51 was created by Allan Weiner, Michael Ketter, and Tim Smith in 2003, and originally aired as a four hour programming block on WBCQ’s newest shortwave service on 5.100 MHz worldwide international shortwave.
The name “Area 51″ was suggested by Joe Walsh, famed guitar magician (James Gang, The Eagles). Area 51 is currently a daily programming block on WBCQ’s 5.110 MHz shortwave service, heard daily from 7 to 9pm eastern time (2300 to 0100 UTC).
Area 51 airtime is subsidized through a cooperative arrangement between WBCQ and Radio Free Mount Airy and is supported by contributions from our valued listeners.
Area 51 and The World Microscope web site is dedicated to Michael Ketter, our beloved friend and brother in arms. Michael’s influence is felt in everything we do.
This whole mess is produced by the Right Reverend Cosmikdebris and Pope Jane (Larry and Jane Will) in association with Radio Free Mount Airy, in the beautiful state of Maryland, USA. Internet streaming is provided by the Splatterbox network in conjunction with The Bowling League. Special thanks to Allan and Jennifer Weiner and Tim Smith.
