Shep

Jean Shepherd (1921–1999) was an American storyteller, radio and TV personality, ham radio operator (K2ORS), writer and actor who was often referred to by the nickname Shep.

With a career that spanned decades, he is best-known to modern audiences for the film A Christmas Story (1983), which he narrated and co-scripted, and is based on his own semi-autobiographical stories.

WBCQ is proud to rebroadcast classic audio from Jean Shepherd’s career, concentrating on his radio appearances from his long running show on WOR in New York from the late 1950s until 1977.

Much of our Jean Shepherd material comes from the archives of Complex Variables Studio, as restored for airplay by Michael Ketter. Today, we’re fortunate that large collections of Shep shows is available from The Internet Archive.

We are currently running Shep’s radio shows every Wednesday at 8PM eastern time as part of the Area 51 broadcast on WBCQ 5.110 MHz.
